The Fall . Punk or not punk ?

I know Mark says not and I respect his words.
But as an ex punk who was knocking around in those halcyon days , having without a doubt the best times of my life , I cannot personally accept that songs like
'Industrial Estate , Bingo Masters Breakout , No Christmas for John Quays , and more were not British punk songs.
And they certainly lack nothing because of it.
Yes they were different from the mainstream punks. And better of course. But so were Wire , and Joy Division to name two. Both of who still affiliate themselves with the UK punk scene.
The poetry , the group , the attitude all gelled into my favourite group and lifted them above everyone else.
They are still , no matter the changes , my favourite group. They've progressed and shape shifted by light years since those days.
But I still can't blind myself to their initial punkyness !
Any thoughts ?

I don't think the fall were punk, they were a reaction to punk

i think so too, at least at first, but, i dunno, i think its annoying to have to categorise because like.. i mean i put my stuff sometimes in folk (i was embarrased at first).. or rock.. or blues... but its somewhere in between these things or something, im not saying it "defies categorisation" but, i dunno, i just get annoyed at the limited range of options. it doesnt matter really and its convinient but.

i dunno like alot of the Falls stuff i would be pressed to put in a category, its pretty unique.

im actually gonna listen to that again now cos i can relate to it more and i wanna hear what im fucking banging on about. i dont remember it or saying those things and its interesting that im saying i feel like a prisoner or something. also GIVE ME MY FUCKING VOICE BACK.

its all like filtered through that body and that upbringing and i really, really fucking miss it, especially being a man, i dont know whose stupid idea it was to come back as a woman, maybe i thought i would like it lol. DOH.
